As part of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s (MCIT) efforts to commemorate the transportation of royal mummies from the Egyptian Museum to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat, with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO) has issued a set of postage stamps featuring QR codes for the first time, to commemorate this event of paramount significance on local and international levels.
The ICT Minister Amr Talaat underlined that the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade is a major historic event that the world is expecting, making us proud of the ancient Egyptian civilization. He stated that as part of the concerted efforts to bring out and document this event properly, as one of the most renowned events in the history of our nation, a collection of stamps has been issued to commemorate this grandiose event.
Talaat stressed Egypt’s keenness to organize a lavish spectacle that reflects the advancement witnessed in Egypt today, which required keeping up with these efforts through issuing commemorative stamps that document the event, using cutting-edge technology, namely QR code. It is applied for the first time in postage stamps in Egypt with the aim of creating a rich interactive experience for customers, enabling them to learn about the event in a creative and attractive way.
For his part, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Enany thanked MCIT and ENPO for issuing stamps to commemorate the transportation of the royal mummies in a legendary parade, from the Egyptian Museum to NMEC, drawing the world’s attention. He said that the Parade is a unique once-in-a-lifetime global event through which Egypt aims to show how much Egyptians respect their history, and highlight the beauty of Cairo in front of the whole world.
ENPO Chairman Sherif Farouk stated that the historic event does us proud and reflects Egypt’s leadership and ability to carry on its development and construction plans. ENPO was eager to promptly contribute to and document this major event through issuing a set containing a commemorative card and a collection of stamps bearing the event logo, as well as a commemorative plaque including the pictures of the kings and the queens who will be transported in the parade.
This is the first time that Egypt Post applies the QR code technology in commemorative stamps, enabling stamp enthusiasts and collectors to obtain information on the stamp and the occasion through connecting the stamp to the Internet. This comes as part of the comprehensive development plan that Egypt Post is currently witnessing, which aims to achieve the digital transformation in all its departments, sectors and services.
The commemorative set consists of three 3×5 cm stamps, each for EGP 5, as well as an 8×12 cm card, also for EGP 5. As for the plaque, it includes 22 stamps bearing the pictures of the kings and the queens whose mummies will be transported, at size 20×21 cm, and for EGP 5. All the items in the collection were created using multicolor offset printing and anti-counterfeiting technology, featuring QR codes.
