Coastal Africa is extremely vulnerable to climate change, facing coastal erosion and degradation of marine ecosystems, while its sustainable infrastructure and resources to manage adaptation remain limited. Limited resources compound the threats facing this region and threaten the economic growth of these markets. In response to these challenges and calls for climate finance to be made accessible to vulnerable and developing countries, The World Bank developed the Blue Economy for Resilient Africa (BE4RAP). This evening at COP27 Biodiversity Day, the World Bank held a session to launch the initiative, which aims to direct climate finance and develop strategic partnerships, increase access to knowledge and operational solutions, and further dialogue on the Blue Economy opportunities for the region.
