وهو أحد الكهوف الطبيعية بمحافظة مطروح، ويرجع تاريخه للعصر الروماني، حيث استخدم كمخزن للقمح والشعير، لإمداد السفن وتزويدها بالمؤن اللازمة لقربه من البحر.
اختار الجنرال الألماني إرفين روميل الكهف ليكون بمثابة مقرًا له وقلعة لإدارة القتال أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية.
وقد أهدى مانفيلد روميل، ابن القائد روميل، مجموعة من متعلقات والده للحكومة المصرية، كما تم إهداء المتحف في عام 1991 ببعض الأسلحة الصغيرة من مقتنيات الحرب العالمية الثانية.
تم افتتاح المتحف عام 1997، ثم أُغلق في عام 2010 للترميم، وتم افتتاحه مره أخرى بعد إعادة ترميمه وتجديد العرض المتحفي به في 25 أغسطس 2017.
The Rommel Cave Museum celebrates the anniversary of its opening on August 25th.
It is one of the natural caves in Matrouh Governorate, and dates back to the Roman Period, when it was used as a storehouse for wheat and barley and provide ships with the necessary supplies due to its proximity to the sea.
The German General Erwin Rommel chose the cave to serve as his headquarters and as a combat management fortress during World War II.
Manfeld Rommel, the son of Commander Rommel, gave a collection of his father’s belongings to the Egyptian government, and in 1991 the museum was gifted with some small weapons from World War II holdings.
The museum was opened in 1997, then closed in 2010 for restoration, and reopened after its development on August 25, 2017.
