UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo celebrates jointly with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities وزارة السياحة والآثار Museums Sector – Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities قطاع المتاحف and ICOM Egypt- اللجنة الوطنية المصرية للمجلس الدولي للمتاحف the International Museum Day IMD2023 by organizing one day event to shed light on the role of Museums in the effective implementation of UNESCO Culture Conventions. The objective of the initiative is to emphasize on the role of Museums as key contributors to the well-being and to the sustainable development of communities.

The panels will discuss on:

– The 1970 Convention on Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, with participation of UNESCO, CCCPA and MoTA

– The 1972 Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, with participation of UNESCO, MoTA and The International Association of Egyptologistss

– The 2001 Convention on Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage, with participation of Alexandria Centre for Maritime Archaeology & Underwater Cultural Heritage and MoTA

– The 2003 Convention on the Safeguarding of the intangibleculturalheritage, with participation of UNESCO, ICOM, Egypt’s Museum of Folk Art and وزارة الثقافة المصرية

– The 2005 Convention on Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, with participation of EMPC, مهرجان الأقصر للسينما الأفريقية and Gemini Africa

– The MONDIACULT Declarations with participation of UNESCO, ICOM, MoTA and American Research Center in Egypt-Washington, DC

The event will take place in a hybrid mode (in person and online) with simultaneous interpretation Arabic/English on 18 May 2023 from 9.00-16.00 at the Golden Hall, Manial Palace Museum متحف قصر المنيل, Cairo.
