– The Prime Minister of India visits Al-Hakim Bi-Amr Allah Mosque in Historic Cairo.
Dr. Mostafa Waziry, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, received Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, at Al-Hakim Mosque, on the sidelines of the Prime Minister’s current official visit to Cairo.
Dr. Waziry along with the Prime Minister of India and his accompanying delegation were taken on a tour inside the mosque, during which they reviewed the restoration project carried out by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities represented by the Supreme Council of Antiquities in cooperation with the Ministry of Endowments and the Bohra Sect, which was completed and inaugurated last February.
After the visit, Dr. Waziry presented a souvenir to the Prime Minister, which is a replica of an ancient Egyptian boat, as an expression of the prosperous cooperation between Egypt and India, especially in the field of trade.
The Prime Minister expressed his great admiration for the mosque and its carved inscriptions on its walls and entrances, and his happiness to visit this important archaeological mosque.
Al-Hakim Mosque dates back to the Fatimid Period and is the fourth oldest surviving university mosque in Egypt, and the second largest archaeological mosque in Cairo after the Ahmed Ibn Tulun Mosque.
