The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and the Chairman of the Board of Misr El Kheir Foundation (MEK) Ali Gomaa have witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and MEK. The aim is to enhance collaboration in advancing digital institutional development at MEK and developing the digital skills of its employees to embrace digital transformation and ensure its sustainability.
Under the MoU, the two parties will work together to implement digital capacity-building programs for various societal groups across different governorates. The aim is to promote collaboration in enhancing the knowledge and digital skills of all target groups.
The MoU was signed by the Deputy ICT Minister for Institutional Development Ghada Labib and the CEO of MEK Mohamed Refay.
The ICT Minister emphasized that the MoU reflects the Ministry’s commitment to collaborating with civil society organizations to enhance IT and digital institutional development, aligning with the objectives of the Digital Egypt strategy to facilitate the transition to a digital society. He added that the MoU will bolster the Foundation’s capabilities through the digitization and automation of its operations, thereby enriching its societal role and improving access to its services.
Talaat emphasized that the Ministry’s capacity-building initiatives are diverse, covering various technology specializations and targeting different age groups. The overarching goal is to cultivate a digital talent pool and enhance youth competitiveness. He further mentioned that MCIT provides programs to digitally upskill employees in the state’s administrative apparatus and promote digital literacy among citizens in the villages covered by the Decent Life initiative, aiming to achieve digital economic empowerment.
For his part, Gomaa emphasized the importance of collaboration between MEK and MCIT within the government’s commitment to raising awareness among Egyptian citizens, developing their capabilities, and preparing them for the modern age to meet its demands. Such cooperation aims to contribute to the comprehensive development of society, positioning Egypt as a leading nation.
Gomaa further stated that the new partnership benefits the recipients of projects conducted by Misr El Kheir. This collaboration provides them access to cutting-edge communication technology and leverages the Ministry’s diverse initiatives for digital institutional development. Its aim is to promote the dissemination and enrichment of digital culture and skills among citizens.
Labib emphasized MCIT commitment to forging partnerships with civil society organizations to attain digital and developmental objectives, preparing society for institutional development and digital transformation projects, and ensuring their sustainability. She highlighted that the MoU builds upon the longstanding and fruitful cooperation with the Foundation across multiple initiatives.
Furthermore, Labib stated that the agreement aims to expand the reach of beneficiaries of MCIT various projects and initiatives for digital institutional development, digital literacy promotion, and skills enhancement among citizens in different parts of the country. The ultimate goal is to foster the establishment of a safe, productive, and sustainable interactive digital society. Additionally, the agreement aims to enhance the digital capabilities of MEK and its employees.
Refay clarified that the MoU prioritizes human development, investing in human resources, and fostering knowledge societies by ensuring access to essential IT services for sustainable development. Additionally, it aims to enhance the digital capabilities of MEK employees and train trainers to promote digital literacy. This includes building and enhancing digital capacities, developing computer skills, advocating for safe technology usage, and simplifying citizens’ lives through IT solutions.
The signing ceremony was attended by officials from MCIT and MEK.
