MCIT Inks MoUs with 30 Tech Firms to Upskill Trainees in Digital Egypt Generations Initiatives

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has witnessed the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and 30 global and local ICT companies within the framework of Digital Egypt Generations (DEG) initiatives.

MCIT introduced DEG as a comprehensive platform encompassing fully-funded digital capacity-building initiatives tailored for individuals across various age groups. The programs cater to students starting from the fourth grade, extending to university students and graduates with diverse academic backgrounds. The objective is to enhance the skills of young Egyptians in contemporary ICT specializations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), data science, cybersecurity, embedded systems, digital arts, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), aligning with the demands of both local and global labor markets.

The initiatives are implemented in cooperation with top international universities and local and global ICT companies. DEG initiatives include Digital Egypt Marvels Initiative (DEMI) for students from the fourth to the sixth year of primary school, Digital Egypt Cubs Initiative (DECI) for top-performing students from the first year of preparatory school to the second year of secondary school, and Digital Egypt Pioneers Initiative (DEPI), which aims to develop tech leadership in cutting-edge technologies among university students and graduates from different specializations.

The fourth is Digital Egypt Builders Initiative (DEBI); it is aimed at honing the skills of outstanding graduates in certain specializations. DEBI is divided into two programs: DEBI Senior and DEBI Professional. The Senior program is implemented in collaboration with international universities to grant participants professional certificates. DEBI Professional is executed in collaboration with global educational platforms and international universities to upskill trainees in the latest ICT domains. The program involves practical training delivered in collaboration with international and local companies to develop leadership, administrative, and language skills.

In his remarks, the ICT Minister emphasized that collaboration between the governmentrepresented by MCIT and its affiliatesand the private sector in DEG initiatives extends beyond mere logistical support or the provision of training materials. It involves the exchange of expertise and ideas, fostering a comprehensive approach to realizing the initiatives’ objectives in shaping the future of Digital Egypt generations. The aim is to empower youth to contribute to the establishment of an integrated digital society.

Talaat explained that DEG initiatives are distinguished by various factors. One factor is integration, as the initiatives target individuals across diverse age groups rather than being limited to a specific demographic. Another factor is tailored training programs on specific occupations aligned with the demands of both local and global labor markets. For this, MCIT collaborates with the private sector to equip young individuals with comprehensive skills, enabling them to effectively compete in a dynamic global job marketplace.

DEG initiatives are also characterized by inclusivity, added the ICT Minister. He elaborated that the ICT sector is no longer exclusive to graduates with technical specializations; it is now accessible to graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. Furthermore, the initiatives encompass a combination of skills, addressing not only technical proficiencies but also incorporating essential soft skills demanded by the labor market.
