In a significant step towards addressing Egypt’s solid waste management challenges, the Ministry of Environment and Emirati private-public sustainability organisation, BEEAH, have signed a contract during the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to establish an innovative and sustainable ‘New Administrative City for Solid Waste Management’ in Egypt.

The project will focus on developing state-of-the-art infrastructure, including advanced waste collection systems, recycling facilities, and waste treatment plants. Cutting-edge technologies and innovative waste management techniques will be employed to minimise waste generation, maximise resource recovery, and mitigate environmental impacts.

One of the key objectives of the project is to promote circular economy principles, where waste is viewed as a valuable resource. Through the implementation of recycling programs and resource recovery initiatives, the city will strive to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, minimise pollution, and contribute to a more sustainable and resource-efficient future.

Furthermore, the New Administrative City for Solid Waste Management is expected to generate significant economic benefits. It will create employment opportunities in the waste management sector, stimulate local industries associated with waste treatment and recycling, and contribute to overall economic growth and development.

This project holds the promise of revolutionizing Egypt’s waste management practices, setting new benchmarks for sustainability, and creating a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient environment for generations to come.
