ICT Minister, UNDP Resident Rep Talk Harnessing ICT for SDGs

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has met with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Egypt Alessandro Fracassetti. They discussed projects implemented within the framework of development partnerships and cooperation agreements between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and UNDP.

The meeting discussed the progress achieved in the joint projects by MCIT and UNDP partners. The projects aim to use ICT to maximize Egypt’s resources and capabilities and achieve digital transformation for sustainable development. Other objectives include promoting tech investment and innovation, building digital capabilities, developing innovative technological solutions, and rendering advanced postal services.

During the meeting, the ICT Minister emphasized MCIT keenness to build bridges of cooperation with international organizations to develop ICT capabilities. He pointed to the long-lasting and fruitful MCIT-UNDP partnership, which resulted in implementing various successful development projects and initiatives aimed at using ICT to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) and support the transition to a digital society.

For his part, Fracassetti remarked that UNDP Egypt is honored to cooperate with MCIT and its affiliates. He added that the partnership highlights the shared commitment to driving Egypt’s digital transformation agenda.

It is worth noting that the MCIT-UNDP cooperation included many projects that accelerate the attainment of SDGs, covering a wide range of intertwined societal, economic, and environmental development issues affected by ICT.

The meeting was attended by Egypt Post Chairperson Sherif Farouk, the Executive President of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) Hossam El-Gamal, the Head of the Central Administration for Financial and Administrative Affairs at MCIT and Country MCIT-UNDP Project Director Samer Saeed, the Chairwoman of the Information Technology Institute (ITI) Heba Saleh, the Advisor to the ICT Minister for Technology Innovation, Electronics Industry and Training Hossam Osman, the Advisor to the ICT Minister for Digital Community Development and DT4SDE project head Hoda Dahroug, the Director of the Applied Innovation Center (AIC) Ahmed Tantawy, the Senior Secretary of the Department of International Cooperation and Development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Anwar, and UNDP Egypt Assistant Resident Representative and Inclusive Growth and Innovation Team Leader Abeer Shakweer.
