The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat participated, today, in the opening ceremony of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 (PP-22), in Bucharest, Romania.
The Plenipotentiary Conference is the highest policy-making body of the ITU. It adopts the next four-year strategic and financial plans.
On the sidelines of the Conference, the ICT Minister met with the South Korean Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho. They discussed enhancing several areas of common interest and opening new horizons of cooperation between the two countries in ICTs related to designing and manufacturing electronics as well as building digital capacities.
The meeting was attended by Egyptian Ambassador to Romania Moayad Eldalie.
The meeting highlighted the current multiple partnerships between the two countries in ICTs, including cooperation with Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in Korea, within the framework of Digital Egypt Builders Initiative (DEBI).
The two sides also discussed mechanisms for transferring knowledge and exchanging experiences in ICT capacity development, as well as mutual support for both countries regarding the candidates for the ITU positions.
Talaat highlighted that Egypt pays great attention to indigenizing and fostering electronics manufacturing. He looked forward to enhancing cooperation between the two countries in this significant industry. He also referred to Egypt’s experience in building CREATIVA Innovation Hubs and cooperating with global companies in these Hubs in promoting entrepreneurship and startups.
For his part, the South Korean Minister of Science and ICT expressed his interest in strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the fields of digital capacity-building, research and development (R&D), and electronics manufacturing. He emphasized that he would promote cooperation aspects between the two countries during the coming period through the relevant Korean authorities in this regard.
The meeting was attended by Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, Assistant ICT Minister for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) Mohamed Nasr Eldin, and various officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).
The ICT Minister is to deliver a speech, tomorrow, during the Policy Statements sessions, as part of PP-22 activities. He will also hold various meetings with ministries and senior government and international officials participating in the Conference.
