ICT Minister Partakes in Opening VivaTech, Talks Cooperation with French Counterpart, Witnesses Signing of MoU between ITIDA, Valeo

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has participated in the opening of the 7th edition of Viva Technology (VivaTech), in Paris, France, on behalf of the President of the Republic.

VivaTech is an annual technology conference that brings together startups, trailblazers, and investors to explore the newest digital innovations and leading experiences in the digital industry.

The ICT Minister met with the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Telecommunications in France Jean-Noël Barrot, in the presence of the Ambassador of Egypt to France Alaa Youssef. They reviewed Egypt-France ICT cooperation projects related to boosting emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), and fostering youth’s innovation and entrepreneurship. They also emphasized the significance of enhancing cooperation and opening new horizons for cooperation.

During the meeting, Talaat reviewed Digital Egypt strategy and the state’s efforts to achieve the transition into an integrated digital society. He also highlighted the significance of mutual recognition of e-signature between the two countries with official seals on trade-related documents to expedite trade processes between companies in the two countries.

For his part, Barrot shared the French experience in digital transformation and cybersecurity. France previously launched a platform that brings together stakeholders in cybersecurity.

The ICT Minister concluded the meeting by inviting his French counterpart to visit Egypt, heading an official delegation that includes various ICT small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to closely explore investment opportunities in the ICT sector, especially in embedded systems and electronics design and manufacturing.

On the sidelines of his participation in VivaTech, Talaat witnessed the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and Valeo. The MoU aims to establish a training academy focusing on building digital capabilities in embedded systems in the automotive industry and autonomous driving.

The MoU was signed by ITIDA CEO Ahmed Elzaher and Valeo Egypt General Manager and Group Technical Center Vice President Tamer Aly.

Following the signing ceremony, the ICT Minister held a meeting with Valeo Chief Technology Officer Geoffrey Bouquot. They discussed enhancing cooperation in embedded software as part of the automotive industry as well as reviewing the company’s plans to increase its investments in Egypt.

In a similar vein, Talaat met with the Executive Vice President and CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa Jérôme Hénique and CEO of Orange Egypt Yasser Shaker. They reviewed Orange’s plans to increase its business in Egypt in the field of capacity-building and enhancing cooperation with ITIDA to implement capacity-building programs in Egypt.

The ICT Minister also visited several companies in which Orange invests. He explored various applications that rely on promoting Artificial Intelligence (AI) and providing communication services in the health sector.

Talaat concluded his meetings in Paris by holding a meeting with the Managing Director of SEGULA Technologies Stéphane Le Corre. The meeting delved into the company’s plans to establish its center specializing in embedded software in Egypt.

The meetings were attended by Elzaher, the Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, and the Advisor for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Adel Hamed.
