The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has opened WE Applied Technology Schools Career Fair. The event has been organized by Telecom Egypt in Smart Village, attended by 28 local and international companies specializing in ICT, software development, web development, networks, FinTech, e-commerce, recruitment, and electronics.
The event was attended by the Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt Mohamed Nasr Eldin, officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Telecom Egypt, and representatives of the chamber of Information Technology and Communications (CIT) of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI).
The Fair was organized as part of the objectives of establishing WE Schools, including shaping a new generation of skilled technicians able to compete in local, regional, and international telecom markets. This is achieved by upskilling and equipping students with the necessary hands-on experience. The Career Fair was aimed at providing 190 students that make the first batch of graduates at WE ATS in Nasr City, who concluded the academic year 2022-2023, with career opportunities in ICT companies.
The event included a session on WE ATS system and Telecom Egypt’s efforts in building a skilled workforce able to compete in local, regional, and international telecom markets by upskilling and equipping students with hands-on experience. The Fair provided a platform for students and employers to network and it featured sessions on work ethics and culture in relevant industries.
In his remarks, Talaat stated that MCIT, through WE ATS, strives to get young people prepared for the ICT labor market, which is all about competence, and change the image of technical and vocational school graduates. He underscored that admission to WE Schools requires that the student be a top performer. The ICT Minister added that the WE Schools project was launched three years ago. So far, seven schools have been established, and 20 new schools in 20 governorates will start operating this year, with each governorate having one WE School, he noted.
For his part, Nasr Eldin said he was pleased to have the Career Fair organized, which opens the door to the labor market for graduates of WE Schools. The idea behind WE ATS is to create a system that changes the image of technical and vocational education and foster a new culture that helps meet the challenges and requirements of modern education by building a full model aimed at upskilling students and teachers and instilling principles of professionalism.
It is worth noting that WE Schools were first introduced in 2020 as part of MCIT capacity-building strategy and its vision of shaping a generation of highly-qualified skilled technicians, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education. WE ATS is the first ICT-specialized smart school following international standards.
