ICT Minister Opens, Inspects MCIT Projects in ‘Decent Life’ Villages in Menoufia

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Governor of Menoufia Ibrahim Abu Lemon made, today, an extensive tour to inaugurate and inspect a number of projects implemented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in the villages of the Decent Life initiative in Menoufia Governorate. They were received by Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt Mohamed Nasr, and a number of Telecom Egypt’s officials. They inspected the establishment of the communications network and the installment of optical fiber cables in Shamma village at Ashmoun district, within the framework of the project undertaken by Telecom Egypt to provide high-speed Internet services in the villages of the Decent Life initiative.

During his inspection tour, Talaat asserted his keenness to continuously follow up on MCIT projects implemented in all governorates to learn about the latest achievement rates and progress achieved in accordance with the set goals and the specified timetable and to overcome obstacles that may hinder the implementation of projects. This is in addition to communicating directly with citizens in these governorates and know more about their opinions, and how far they are satisfied with the telecommunication and postal services provided to them.

He stated that MCIT participation in Decent Life project is based on four parallel pillars, including the development of post offices; the delivery of high-speed Internet service to all the villages’ homes through installing fiber optic cables; the development of digital skills and culture for the people of the villages; and the improvement of the quality of communication services by establishing cell sites. He pointed out that the development of all post offices in Decent Life villages in Menoufia governorate has been completed, and fiber optic cables are currently being laid with regard to the delivery of high-speed Internet services.

Nasr has given a detailed explanation about Telecom Egypt’s projects to develop the communications infrastructure in Menoufia governorate, where Telecom Egypt has completed the achievement of digital transformation for government agencies and institutions in the governorate. Telecom Egypt also targets finalizing the installment of fiber optic cables to raise the efficiency of the Internet in Decent Life villages in the governorate.

Talaat visited the home of one of the families benefiting from high-speed Internet services in the village of Shamma, where a dialogue took place with family members, including a student who hailed the quality of the Internet service and the rate of speed, which helped him continue his study.

Talaat and Abu Lemon, accompanied by Egypt Post Chairman Sherif Farouk, opened two post offices: Quesna Post Office and Shamma Post Office, after developing and equipping them with the latest technological systems and solutions to provide all financial, postal, governmental and Digital Egypt services for citizens.

For his part, Farouk stated that the openings of Egypt Post offices in Menoufia come within the implementation of Egypt Post’s comprehensive strategic plan to develop various sectors, thus improving the level of services provided to citizens. He referred to the number of post offices in Menoufia which totaled 259 post offices, including 45 post offices within the Decent Life Initiative. He pointed out that Egypt Post contributes substantially to the Decent Life initiative, which includes 52 districts in 20 governorates that are served by 847 post offices in addition to 333 service complexes across these governorates. 760 post offices have been developed so far, with a completion rate of 90%, and the development of all offices that fall within the scope of the Decent Life initiative will be completed by the end of this year.

The main Quesna Post Office is located on an area of 90 square meters, with eight windows staffed by employees highly trained to provide services to citizens and equipped with an ATM machine. “Shamma” Post Office is one of the offices of Decent Life villages and is located on an area of 100 square meters. It provides all advanced postal services through five windows and is equipped with an ATM.

All offices provide integrated postal and financial government services such as pension disbursement, real estate registration services and payment of traffic fines in addition to current accounts, local and international transfers, correspondence and parcel services, express mail, as well as payment of electricity, water and gas bills, postal savings services, and landline telephone bill payment service. The offices are equipped with ATMs, in addition to the latest monitoring systems and fire and theft alarms. Post Offices are equipped with 107 ATMs at the governorate level.

The ICT Minister and Menoufia Governorate also inspected the training activities and training programs organized by MCIT at Shamma Youth Center to build capacities and improve digital skills for the people of Shamma village. They were received by Deputy Minister for Institutional Development Ghada Labib.

This comes within the framework of building digital capabilities and eradicating digital illiteracy, one of the main pillars that MCIT implements in the villages of the Decent Life initiative nationwide, with the aim of disseminating digital culture, improving digital skills, and promoting people’s digital economic empowerment in Decent Life villages.

It is noteworthy that the ICT Minister is visiting Menoufia Governorate to inaugurate and inspect a number of MCIT projects in the villages of Decent Life initiative in the governorate. The agenda of the visit includes the signing of two memorandums of understanding between MCIT and the governorate; a visit to Creativa Innovation Hub at the University of Menoufia; and an inspection tour of Telecom Egypt’s customer service center in Shebin El-Kom (1) and an industrial secondary school.
