The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has held an extensive meeting with the Governor of Gharbia Tarek Rahmi at Gharbia general bureau, with the participation of several officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the governorate.
The meeting reviewed the implementation status of the ICT projects in the governorate. The projects are aimed at raising the information infrastructure’s efficiency, achieving digital transformation, and upskilling youth digitally in the governorate.
During the meeting, the ICT Minister referred to cooperation projects between MCIT and Gharbia in various pillars, including postal services. A plan to develop post offices in the governorate is being implemented. Furthermore, six mobile post offices were provided in the governorate at peak times such as pension disbursement.
The number of automated teller machines (ATMs) has also been increased to reach over 108 in post offices. Two new post offices have been established and more offices will be established as part of the governorate’s plan to provide services to citizens and complete the renovation of 27 post offices in the governorate within the framework of the first phase of the Decent Life initiative.
Talaat highlighted the fruitful cooperation with Gharbia governorate in issuing licenses for building cell towers. As a result, 85 new cell towers have been established, completing 110% of 2022 goals. Moreover, 25 out of 53 towers have been established in the villages targeted within Decent Life in the governorate, and the rest will be established during the first quarter of 2023.
The ICT Minister pointed to the cooperation between MCIT and the Ministry of Education in the project of automating inclusive education schools that host students with disabilities. He explained that 25 schools in the governorate have been equipped with computer labs and another 20 schools will be equipped with labs in 2023. Furthermore, in 2022, around 2,000 teachers and mentors of schools in Gharbia were trained and qualified to teach students with disabilities.
Talaat explained the cooperation in automating the governorate’s general bureau and equipping it with software to develop work in the governorate. He added that he will inspect the work progress in MCIT projects in the governorate by inspecting and opening several post offices, as well as inspecting MCIT projects in the villages targeted within Decent Life in the governorate.
Talaat will also inspect one of the inclusive education schools for which technological support was provided. He will also inspect the construction site of CREATIVA Innovation Hub, established by MCIT at Tanta University.
The meeting discussed the efforts made to develop the ICT infrastructure and support digital transformation efforts in Gharbia. Telecom Egypt completed all digital transformation works for government entities and institutions in the governorate. It completed all work for 692 digital transformation sites in different government entities targeted with the action plan.
Following the meeting, Talaat and Rahmi visited the technological center and the information infrastructure and control center at the governorate’s general bureau. They also inspected the workflow at Telecom Egypt Store in Tanta (3) Telephone Exchange. They were received by the Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt Adel Hamed and officials from Telecom Egypt.
The Store provides various ICT services to citizens, such as landline, fixed broadband, fixed line value-added services, mobile phone, e-wallet, and domain registration and website hosting services. The Store also provides mobile services to companies, sells mobile, landline and internet devices and accessories of all kinds, and provides installment services for mobile devices and fixed internet, in cooperation with the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) and Banque Misr. The Store accepts e-payments for fixed and mobile Internet services.
Talaat and Rahmi also inspected the work progress inside Tanta Main Post Office. They were received by Egypt Post Chairman Sherif Farouk.
