The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has met with the Director General of the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Madan Mohan Tripathi, in New Delhi, India. They discussed enhancing cooperation in developing digital skills within the framework of the initiatives and programs carried out by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to develop and train human calibers on the latest global ICTs.
The meeting addressed enhancing cooperation between MCIT and NIELIT in building capacity in ICT, electronics design, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) by implementing training programs in cooperation with the Information Technology Institute (ITI) and WE Schools for Applied Technology. This is in addition to training participants of Digital Egypt Builders Initiative (DEBI).
NIELIT is under the administrative control of the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. It is engaged both in formal and non-formal education, provides on-site and online technology training, and grants diplomas and post-graduate degrees in ICT disciplines such as AI, cybersecurity, blockchain, and electronics design.
In a similar vein, the ICT Minister met with the Managing Director at smartphone manufacturer Micromax Informatics Ltd Vikas Jain, and Director of Play Design Labs, a maker of mobile accessories and wearables, Rohan Agarwal. They discussed the two companies’ expansion plans in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa and means to increase investments in electronics manufacturing. The two companies also had plans to serve clients in EMEA markets from Egypt as their regional hub.
The Egyptian side showcased the Egypt Makes Electronics (EME) initiative and the incentives offered by the Egyptian government to promote local manufacturing of mobile phones and electronics.
Furthermore, Talaat also met with Founder and Global Head of Innovation Think Tank (ITT) of Siemens Healthineers Sultan Haider. They discussed enhancing cooperation in supporting digital innovation and entrepreneurship, building digital capabilities, and using modern technologies to develop innovative technological solutions.
The ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation took a tour of ITT. They visited ITT Lab and explored the latest sustainable technologies and innovative solutions it offers. Talaat also took a virtual tour to explore activities at ITT Lab in Erlangen, Germany.
Talaat presented Egypt’s strategies and plans to support digital innovation and develop the start-up and entrepreneurship ecosystem by establishing CREATIVA Innovation Hubs nationwide. The Hubs provide technology training, discover innovators, support digital innovation and entrepreneurship, and host networking forums for entrepreneurs and investors. The Egyptian start-up and entrepreneurship ecosystem is a regional leader in light of its continuing growth, noted the ICT Minister.
The collaboration between MCIT and ITT was addressed during the meeting. Collaboration included carrying out the ITT Egypt capacity-building program at CREATIVA Innovation Hub in Sultan Hussein Kamel Palace, last year.
The two sides discussed exchanging expertise in strategies and plans to support innovation and establish incubators to promote entrepreneurship in technology. They also discussed the possibility of opening an ITT branch at CREATIVA Innovation Hub in Sultan Hussein Kamel Palace and hosting ITT annual event in Egypt.
Siemens Healthineers is a leading medtech company with a service portfolio spanning from in-vitro and in-vivo diagnostics to image-guided therapy and molecular testing. ITT acts as the company’s think tank. It helps ministries and healthcare institutions develop self-sustaining innovation infrastructures. Siemens Healthineers office in Egypt was established in 2016.
The meetings were attended by Acting CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Ahmed Elzaher, Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, and Assistant ICT Minister for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) Mohamed Nasr Eldin.
It is worth noting that the ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation are visiting India on January 9-13. They are meeting with Indian government officials and CEOs of major ICT companies to discuss enhancing cooperation and attracting investments to the Egyptian market.
