At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, the ICT Minister met with the Bahraini Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Mohammed bin Thamer Al Kaabi. They discussed enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise between Egypt and Bahrain in digital transformation, institutional development, data centers, digital capacity-building, innovation and entrepreneurship, applied research in Artificial Intelligence (AI), and postal services, in addition to attracting investments in ICT.
The meeting highlighted the significance of collaboration in the FinTech field as part of the efforts to attain digital transformation in the two countries. The two ministers agreed to formalize cooperation between Egypt and Bahrain in the ICT sector through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to be inked soon.
The meeting was attended by the Acting Director of the Telecommunications Directorate at the Bahraini Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications Mohamed Ahmed bin Ali and the Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt Mohamed Nasr.
Talaat also held a meeting with the CEO of Detecon International Jürgen Schäfer. As an independent company within the Deutsche Telekom Group, Detecon is the world’s leading corporation specializing in management and technology consultancy.
The meeting was joined by the Managing Partner and Regional Head, MEA at Detecon Falk Schröder, and the Managing Director of Egypt Office and Expert Partner Amir Abdelazim.
The discussion delved into global trends in the digital economy, innovation, fiber optics, and 5G applications. The two sides also explored opportunities for collaboration in implementing FTTH nationwide, increasing Detecon’s investments in the Egyptian market, and relying on Egyptian talent to carry out telecom network expansion projects in Egypt.
Telecom Egypt’s CEO Mohamed Nasr and the Director of the Central Department of International Relations at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) Samah Aziz attended the meetings.
It is worth noting that the ICT Minister is visiting Barcelona to participate in MWC 2024. Organized by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), MWC is the world’s largest and most influential event for the connectivity ecosystem.
Talaat is due to hold meetings with government officials and representatives of major ICT companies and international organizations to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment in related fields.
