ICT Minister Inspects Construction Site of Creativa Innovation Hub at Tanta University

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Governor of Gharbia Tarek Rahmi have visited the construction site of Creativa Innovation Hub which is being established by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) at Tanta University. This came during the ICT Minister’s visit to Gharbia Governorate.

The Gharbia Hub is one of many Hubs established by MCIT in different governorates, with the aim of promoting technological innovation and entrepreneurship, developing the digital skills of young people in all parts of the country, and qualifying youth for the labor market.

MCIT set a target to increase the number of Hubs from three to 30, at an EGP five million budget. The first phase of the Creativa project included establishing eight Hubs. The second and current phase covers 12. In the third phase, seven Hubs are to be established.

Creativa Innovation Hubs boast tech labs, training centers, and start-up incubators. The Hubs also host matchmaking and networking events, bringing youth together with investors and major companies that seek to foster innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Hub at Tanta University is being constructed by the Command Military Work of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority. It is due for completion in 2023.

In a similar vein, the ICT Minister and Gharbia Governor visited Tanta Intellectual Education School. They were received by the Chairman of the National Academy of Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities (NAID) AbdEl-Monem El-Sharkawy.

MCIT has been supplying the school with technology equipment, including computers, a printer and a projector, as well as with assistive technology tools. The aim is to facilitate learning and training for students with intellectual disabilities.

It is worth mentioning that MCIT cooperates with the Ministry of Education in a project where technology is used to improve and facilitate education for people with disabilities. Phase one of the project covered 810 special and inclusive education schools, and nearly 30,000 teachers in different parts of Egypt have been trained and upskilled.

In July 2021, the two ministries signed a cooperation agreement on supporting and developing educational inputs to better serve students with disabilities. Under the agreement, 100,000 teachers are trained, and 1,600 inclusive education and community schools are equipped at an EGP 150 million fund by MCIT. The aim is to facilitate and improve special education using modern technology.

During the visit, a number of students delivered art performances before the ICT Minster. He was also introduced to educational activities that help students develop skills and capabilities using technology, and called for providing further support to students with special abilities.

Talaat is visiting Gharbia Governorate to open and inspect ICT projects in rural villages within Decent Life Initiative. Earlier today, the ICT Minister visited Gharbia City Hall and inspected the digital transformation projects. In addition, he checked the work status in Tanta Main Post Office and Telecom Egypt Store in Tanta (3) Telephone Exchange.
