The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has received the German Ambassador to Egypt Frank Hartmann. The meeting discussed enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Germany in digital transformation and youth capacity-building in ICTs.
The two sides delved into the current and future ICT cooperation projects between the two countries, including the cooperation between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), within the framework of the “Supporting e-Government and Innovation in the Public Administration (InnoPA) project.
The meeting also shed light on launching Digital Egypt Strategy for Offshoring Industry 2022-2026, enhancing cooperation in outsourcing, and creating a talent pool capable of exporting ICT services. In addition, the meeting also discussed the efforts made by MCIT and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) to build youth technical capabilities and provide training programs to help them master the German language. These programs qualify young people to find job opportunities in the outsourcing and call center services which German language is one of its requirements.
During the meeting, the ICT Minister highlighted MCIT keenness to leverage the distinguished expertise of the German side in IT and research and development (R&D) based on modern technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital transformation. He stated that German companies could benefit from the Egyptian talent pool working in the IT freelancing market. This is in addition to increasing cooperation with German companies to leverage outsourcing services provided by Egypt.
For his part, Hartmann looked forward to fostering ICT cooperation between the two countries. He pointed out that Germany is interested in opening the market to take advantage of youth’s experiences worldwide, including Egypt. It also supports women’s participation in the ICT workforce, he added. Hartmann emphasized the significance of the ongoing cooperation between MCIT and GIZ in digital transformation.
The meeting was attended by ITIDA CEO Ahmed Elzaher, Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, and the Director of the International Relations Division at MCIT Samah Aziz.
From the German side, Head of Economic Department Alexis Below and Head of German Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Cairo Holger Illi attended the meeting.
