The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat held a meeting, today, with officials from members of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in New Delhi, India.
The meeting reviewed the investment opportunities and competitive advantages in the Egyptian ICT sector. The two sides discussed means to attract Indian investments to Egypt’s ICT sector. They also discussed establishing strong partnerships between Egyptian and Indian ICT companies.
CII is a non-government and not-for-profit organization, with around 9,000 members from the private and public sectors, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and multinational corporations (MNCs). It has an indirect membership of over 300,000 enterprises from 286 national and regional sectoral industry bodies.
During the meeting, the ICT Minister reviewed the pillars of the Digital Egypt strategy, revealing the most prominent digital transformation projects in Egypt and the efforts made to develop the national and international telecommunications infrastructure.
Talaat referred to the FTTH project implemented in rural villages within the Decent Life initiative. He also pointed to the initiatives and programs implemented to build digital capabilities and support technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
Moreover, the ICT Minister explained the most prominent proposed areas of cooperation, including digital transformation, innovation and entrepreneurship, and outsourcing. He invited Indian companies to invest in Egypt, in areas including data centers, outsourcing, and offshoring.
The Egyptian side highlighted the capabilities of the ICT industry in Egypt, the strategies, and action plans implemented to develop that industry, promote investments, and indigenize the manufacturing of electronics. This comes as part of Egypt’s huge efforts in digital transformation and reflects its keenness to provide an enabling environment for digital innovation and develop startups and SMEs.
For his part, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Growth at Tech Mahindra Jagdish Mitra addressed enhancing Egyptian-Indian cooperation in related fields. He commended Egypt’s efforts to achieve digital transformation, prepare digital competencies, and develop the telecommunications infrastructure in the villages targeted within Decent Life. Mitra pointed to the Indian experience in digital transformation, explaining the possible cooperation in the telecommunications infrastructure field.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the Economic and Commercial office at the Embassy of Egypt in New Delhi Moustafa Shaikhon, Acting CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Ahmed Elzaher, Assistant ICT Minister for Strategy and Implementation Sherine El-Guindy, and Assistant ICT Minister for Global Information Infrastructure (GII) Mohamed Nasr Eldin.
In a similar vein, the ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation met with the Global Head for Corporate Affairs at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Ranjeet Goswami. TCS is an IT services, consulting and business solutions organization.
The two sides delved into the most prominent projects implemented in Egypt to achieve digital transformation and the efforts made to grow the offshoring industry. The meeting also shed light on Digital Egypt Strategy for Offshoring Industry 2022-2026, the incentives offered to investors, and the efforts made to boost digital exports. Furthermore, the digital capacity-building initiatives and programs carried out by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and its affiliates were presented during the meeting.
Part of Tata Group, TCS is a multinational company operating in around 149 locations across 46 countries, and it is the second largest Indian company by market capitalization.
It is worth noting that the ICT Minister and his accompanying delegation are visiting India on January 9-13. They will meet with several Indian government officials and CEOs of major ICT companies to discuss enhancing cooperation and attracting Indian investments to the Egyptian market.
