An impactful discussion about the climate-finance challenges common to French-speaking countries, potential solutions to ensure easy access to climate finance and an exploration of which existing relevant climate finance initiatives can be promoted within the francophone.
“Only 3% of the annual climate finance available globally in 2019/2020, estimated at $632 billion, was allocated for Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Dr Yasmine Fouad. “Meanwhile 70% of the people who have no access to electricity worldwide in 2022 are in Africa, which emphasizes the urgency for climate finance to bridge the energy gap and decarbonise the economy.”
