Yesterday, Dr. Khaled El Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, delivered a speech before the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce, during the virtual closing session of the conference “Egypt’s Week: The Road Towards Sustainable Economic Growth”, organized by the Egyptian British Business Association BEBA and the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce EBCC, in cooperation with the Egyptian Embassy in the United Kingdom and the British Department of International Trade (DIT) in Egypt.
During his speech, Dr. Khaled El-Enany highlighted the precautionary measures and hygiene safety regulations that are implemented in hotels, touristic establishment, museums and Egyptian archaeological sites. Those hygiene safety measures were put in place for the resumption of inbound tourism last July, and the resumption of cultural tourism last September. The Minister said that on June 2020, the World Travel and Tourism Council WTTC granted Egypt its specially designed Safe Travel Stamp, which will allow travellers and other Travel & Tourism stakeholders to recognise destination authorities and companies around the world that have implemented health and hygiene protocols that are aligned with WTTC’s Safe Travels Protocols.
The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities talked about Egypt’s successful experience in resuming inbound tourism, pointing out that since the first of July about 400 thousand tourists have visited Egypt, and all of them have returned to their countries, after the end of their trip where they enjoyed the picturesque beaches of Egypt and its warm and sunny weather, without monitoring any single case of COVID-19 between them.
During his speech, the minister highlighted the support the Egyptian state gives to the tourism sector, referring to the efforts made during the Coronavirus pandemic to support the tourism sector and the incentives granted to encourage companies and tour operators to organize trips to the Egypt’s touristic governorates, such as exemption from visa fees and reducing land fees.
Dr. Khaled El-Enany said Egypt’s diversity offers a unique mixture of Leisure and Culture, and this is the new trend the Ministry is working on. He explained that at the end of last October, Sharm El-Sheikh Museum was opened as the first museum of antiquities in Sharm El-Sheikh, and last February Hurghada Museum was inaugurated as the first archeological museum in the Red Sea. This gives tourists the opportunity to enjoy the picturesque beaches in the morning and learn about the ancient Egyptian civilization at night by visiting these museums. It also creates a passion for tourists to visit archaeological sites and museums in Luxor and Aswan, which comes in line with the ministry’s policy to link Upper Egypt with the cities Red Sea cities.
BEBA officials praised the efforts made by the Egyptian government to support the tourism sector, and they also praised the precautionary measures taken to ensure the health and safety of citizens, tourists and workers in the tourism sector.
At the end of the virtual meeting, BEBA officials and members inquired about the new archaeological discovery that will be announced tomorrow, Saturday, in Saqqara, describing it as the event that all international newspapers are talking about.
