حيث قام سفير الفاتيكان بالقاهرة والوفد المرافق له بزيارة المنطقة حيث مقابر حكام الأقليم 16 في عصر الدولة الوسطي ومنها مقبرة خيتي ومقبرة خنوم حتب. وقد أبدى إعجابه بالمناظر والنقوش بهم والتي تحكي الحياة اليومية، كما أعرب عن إعجابه بالمناظر الرياضية المنقوشة علي جدران المقابر.
وخلال الزيارة أشاد سفير الفاتيكان بالقاهرة بتاريخ وحضارة مصر وآثار المنيا وبني حسن ووعد بزيارتها مرة أخرى، كما أشاد بالاجراءات الاحترازية وضوابط السلامة الصحية التي تطبقها وزارة السياحة والآثار في المناطق الاثرية.
وفي سياق متصل، زار السفير كريستيان بيرغر سفير الاتحاد الأوروبي بالقاهرة والوفد المرافق له منطقة آثار تونا الجبل بمحافظة المنيا حيث أبدى إعجابه الشديد بمقبرة كبير الكهنة بيتوزيريس وبما تحويه من مناظر ونقوش، كما استمع الى شرح تفصيلي لمقبرة ايزادورا، معربا عن انبهاره وشعوره بالعظمة والخلود والغموض خلال زيارته لسراديب الجبانة المقدسة للطيور والحيوانات رمز المعبود توت.
The Ambassador of the Vatican and the Ambassador of the European visit archeological sites in Minya
Beni Hassan archeological site in Minya received today Ambassador Nicholas Henry, Ambassador of the Vatican in Cairo and members of the embassy. They were received by Mr. Gamal Abu Bakr Al-Sostawy, Director General of Central Egypt Antiquities.
The ambassador of the Vatican visited the tombs of the 16 rulers of the Middle Kingdom, including the tomb of Khiti and the tomb of Khnum Hotep. He admired the scenes and their inscriptions that tell a lot about ancient Egyptian daily life. He also admired the sports scenes on the walls of the tombs.
During the visit, the Vatican ambassador praised Egyptian civilization and said he admired the antiquities of Minya and Beni Hassan. He promised to visit it again, he also praised the precautionary measures and hygiene safety regulations applied by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in the archaeological sites.
Ambassador Christian Berger of the European Union in Cairo and an accompanying delegation visited Tuna al-Gabal antiquities site in Minya. They expressed their great admiration for the tomb of the High Priest Petusiris and the scenes and inscriptions it contained. They listened to a detailed explanation of the tomb of Isadora. The Ambassador expressed his astonishment and of the greatness, eternity and mystery. He also visited the catacombs of the sacred necropolis for birds and animals, the symbol of the God Tut.
